![]() So I thought the archive was just as good a place as any to explain A New Random Hat. In ANRH, I am introducing the story arc, which is a framework used by many other web comic buffs. Basically, the story arc is just an extended storyline. Mine will be comprised of loosely connected comics that work with the same theme. The first, Random Hat Evolution, is actually a creation story. The Random Hat characters will evolve from dents in matter, and we’ll see how the world around them forms from the thoughts of two unknown immature entities. The next story arc, Random Hat Mythology, has a rather misleading title. You’d think that RHM would show the creation of the universe, but instead I’m reserving it for the development of my characters. At this point they will be fully formed physically, but will resemble clay mentally. My goal is to take characters that could be anything, and nail them to the wall. They will start out round, and end up static. This will sort of be the opposite of what a good novel does (and that, I hope, is the only comparison my comic will have with a good novel). Please don't get me wrong; I assure you that my characters will never achieve a mental state higher than a slab of clay. I also promise to make it so that you, my audience, will never need to achieve a mental state higher than cat food to appreciate my comics. After these first two induction story arcs (about one hundred comics each) I’ll resume the normal practice of not knowing where my stories are going until I get there. Hopefully, by then I’ll be fairly competent with drawing my characters, and will have switched from using Paint Shop Pro to Corel Draw. Does Corel Draw do PNG? Sweet! It does! So, I hope this gets you excited. If you haven’t already read my previous comic strips, don’t worry about it; if my new comics don’t make sense to you it has nothing to do with your not reading the previous strips (it's because you're a moron).
